Tonight's game was largely viewed as a mismatch by most of the analysts around the country. The 12-2 Atlanta Falcons were widely believe to waltz into Ford Field and pummel the struggling Lions squad. Many people tuned into tonight's game just to see how close Calvin could get to Rice's long standing receiving record.
The Lions' season has been nothing short of a disappointment in nearly every regard. However, the lone bright spot has been Calvin Johnson's assault upon the NFL record books. Despite fears of the Madden Curse, Megatron has continued to show up and make plays all season long for the Honolulu Blue.
The Lions will not find a way to upset the Falcons, but as expected Megatron did not disappoint. Down 31 to 16, Calvin lined up wide to the right and motions to the slot. He runs a crossing short crossing route and Stafford hits him in stride, allowing him to tear off down the left sideline for a 26 yard gain before being shoved out of bounds.
Calvin Johnson as of this moment has put up enough yards tonight to surpass a record that was once thought to be untouchable. His total of 1,871 yards on the season will only continue to grow through the remainder of tonight's game and the Week 17 matchup against the Bears. Perhaps he will even eclipse the 2,000 yard mark.
