The default excuse for players who are suspended for violating the league’s policy against performance-enhancing drugs has become Adderall, a prescription stimulant that carries none of the stigma of steroids.
But while Seahawks starting cornerbacks Richard Sherman and Brandon Browner reportedly face four-game suspensions after testing positive for Adderall, Sherman says he has never taken the substance.
Steve Wyche of NFL Network reports that Sherman has confirmed that he and Browner have been notified of the suspensions, and that Sherman says he has never taken Adderall.
As we explained last night, both players will continue to practice and participate in games until the appeal process has been resolved.
The timetable for the resolution of the appeal still isn’t known. Reports that Browns cornerback Joe Haden faced a four-game suspension for Adderall emerged on August 8, and the suspension wasn’t finalized for more than a month.
With five games left, the process will need to move quickly for the suspensions, if upheld, to be served during the 2012 regular season. The suspensions would spill into the postseason, if the Seahawks qualify.
