It's been no secret that, when Harbaugh drafted Colin Kaepernick two seasons ago, he intended to have him replace Alex Smith at some point or another. He just probably didn't think it would be as soon as it might be happening.
When Smith was taken out of the game against the Rams a few weeks ago, and Kaepernick came in in relief, Kaepernick proved to be the quarterback he was during the preseason. And in two starts against the highly acclaimed Chicago Bears defense and the league worst New Orleans Saints defense, Kaepernick has put himself into a position where Harbaugh may HAVE to start Colin Kaepernick in place of now-healthy Alex Smith.
Actually, Smith was healthy to play against the Saints. But Kaepernick came in and ran a great game that was overshadowed by an amazing defensive effort by his own team, intercepting two passes from Drew Brees. That only place that THAT happens is in a Madden game!
When asked about Kaepernick starting in his place, Alex Smith didn't seem at all pleased at the thought of being ousted from his position that was in limbo until Jim Harbaugh came in and revamped the entire offense.
The most funny thing about all of this quarterback controversy in San Francisco is the forgetful near-perfect game that Alex Smith had against a very good Arizona defense!
Pushed by the fans, Harbaugh may just be forced to start Colin Kaepernick indefinitely. While Alex Smith is a good game-manager, albeit a sub-par passer, Colin Kerpernick offers a devastating one-two punch through the air and on the ground. Defenses hate having to work on the pass, the rush...and the quarterback rush.
If you want my own personal opinion, the U.S. could use a bit more 'Colin' in it's day-to-day life. Just a thought!
